The Creator or Victim that Defines Me

David Mirman a writer for "You Are the Prime Mover" wrote an article "Do you think like a Victim or a Creator". He writes a story about two students and their ability to possess a book for the class. Both of the students did not had a book for the first day of class, but the next class session only one student did not have a book. Skip Downing, author, of On Course: Strategies for Creating Success in College in Life, describes the student without a book on the second day for class as a Victim. The student was a victim for blaming the school's book store for his misfortune.  The student who had a book for the second day of class Mr. Downing calls her a Creator. He considers creators to be problem solvers. The second student did not start blaming a school book store for not taking initiative of high demand for the book, but consider to contact schools nearby. When she realized that her search was going nowhere, she considered to check online for the school book. While searching online she found used book she needed for the class much cheaper, and with all of the money left over she paid for two day shipping. Mr. Mirman want us to stop living as victim, and become a creators.

My Victim story starts in the sixth grade. The school I was attending was just ten minutes from my house. Night before school I used to set my alarm, but this time I forgot. The night was so cold, and lying in bad was the best thing in the world. When I woke up I felt well refreshed not realizing that it was Monday, and school bus already left. Not until I looked on the time clock I realized what happened. I froze up. The fear has enter my body like thief in the night. “I have missed the bus”, I reminded myself. In the moment of shock, every bone in my body was shaking with fear. How can I explain this to my mother? I must have something to say, because it was not my fault I told to myself. The alarm reset itself, or the bus came too early. I believed to this lies like it was the truth. My whole world was consumed by the lie. More I thought about it the angrier I got. I felt the whole world was plating against me. Everyone was at fault, but not me. The only thing that can get is to punish something for the guilt. Now I had a victim in my eyes and I was a supreme judge. “The court is in session” I said to myself. There will be no mercy I told to alarm clock. There is not time for defendant, the verdict must be read. I had no pity for his miss regard of duty. We must make him into exemplary to all of the dominions to see. The imaginary court have quite down waiting the supreme judge verdict, for everyone knew that nothing good going to come from the judgment. “Death” the judge exclaimed loudly. I grabbed the clock in to my hand and tossed it in to the floor. The clock shattered in to thousands pieces. That is where I realized I messed up. I took a life of someone who did not had anything to do with me missing the bus. I tried to put it together, but with zero luck. It took me year to realize that I have gave anger to take over me and not taking responsibility. I should have realize to take initiative and tried to walk to school. This was my victim mind and now I know what I have done was wrong.

If I could relive this day before I missed the bus, I would have tried to set the alarm clack to avoid all of this dilemma. Wait a minute! Would I have learned anything from not missing the bus? Maybe leaving the alarm off would have been a better alternative. Missing the bus would have gave me a chance to fight my eager to think irrational. Netflix, a popular streaming online service, show House of Card (One of the Netflix original shows) have gave me a boost of confidence. During Third Season of the Show Kevin Spacey acting as a President, the problems did not go away but intensified. First problem was he inherited record low approval rating from privies ex-president, and because of the ratings his own Congressional Party was considering someone else to run for Presidency during the next election. Spacey as a creator did not accepted his defeat, but he searched for solution for his misfortune. First he took three billion dollars from FEMA fund in order boost his popularity. Using his Executive power and with help of D.C. mayor he enacted his America Works (AM. WORKS)  agenda. Second he tricked his own party by saying that he would not run, but actually he just bought himself some time to kick start his program and use it as the bottom line platform as "A Vote for Spacey is Vote for AM.WORKS". A creator is not the one who will stop at the site of a problem, but acts upon it to benefit him in the long run.

Those two students represent how people can be Creators and a Victim. I was a Victim when it could very easily have been a Creator. Learning from my experience have gave me understand about myself a little more. House of Card have truly inspired me to understand, that sometime problem can have benefits if you only think observe and act upon accordingly as a creator. I want to become a creator but not at the expanse of a victim.
